THE UNION IS YOU
The work of Furness District teachers' Association. The local association is the primary contact point between the members and the National Union and Cumbria Division. It enables individual members the opportunity to have their views considered. Our longstanding association objectives are:
a) To advance the cause of education
b) To influence by every legitimate means local public opinion on educational topics, to spread accurate information on educational matters, and especially to seek cooperation of the press in the locality
c) To afford the opportunities for the discussion of educational and professional topics.
d) To protect the professional interests of teachers.
e) To secure the membership of all teachers within the associations area.
f) To secure representation of teachers on Education Committees.
g) To encourage friendly intercourse among its members.

The local association has representation in the Cumbria Division of NUT via the Division Council, Executive and EGAG. The Division Executive Committee meets regularly (six times a year) to address a range of issues and has committees to promote education policy, health and safety and equal opportunities.
